Kris Swanson founded the Corner Store
(and its predecessor, the E Street Studio) in Washington, DC, with
her husband, Roy Mustelier. Kris, born and raised on the Monterey
Peninsula in California, has been a bronze sculptor specializing
in animal and human figures for the past 20 years. Her work is shown in
collections that include the California State Capitol in Sacramento, the
U.S. Embassy in Rome, and the archives of the National Museum of Women in the
Arts in Washington, DC.
Public art commissions include the
portrait of Monterey Institute of International Studies founder Remsen Bird,
installed at the university in April of 1999 and
The Cowboy (right),
completed and installed at the California Rodeo grounds to celebrate the grand
opening of the new Salinas Sports Center in 1997.
The
California Grizzly (left), a monument of the California Bear Flag, was
dedicated on September 5th, 2000 at Colton Hall in Monterey, California.
The work was commissioned to honor the 150th anniversary of California's
admission to the United States.
